It’s taken a long time (and about four drafts) to decide what my first blog post of the year would be, and here it is!
Usually I get caught up in New Year enthusiasm and throw myself wildly into new projects. This year could have been no different as I completed ‘Book Two’ on Christmas Eve and faced the New Year with some time on my hands. However this time I really seem to have learned from my mistakes.
I’m hoping 2013 will be the year I self publish my first novel. I’ve got a lot to learn about self-publishing but I’ve learned the writing/publishing process is a marathon, not a sprint. So I’m going to be taking my time.
January will be dedicated to reading materials about self-publishing and improving my writing process, and also plotting out Book 3 as it’s already started to make its presence felt! Instead of racing headlong into these projects, I’m going to take my time, learn what I need and for once give myself a break. Due to personal circumstances I don’t have a lot of time and energy and conserving the latter is vital to normal life continuing. I don’t want to burn myself out.
So my main New Year’s resolution is to be good to myself. Hopefully this will help all the other little bits of my plan fall into place. I’ll try and keep you posted as much as I can!
Have you made any New Year resolutions? What are your tricks to make sure you stick to them?

Write and read more. Blogging about both shames me into doing them 🙂
