Next Sunday I’ll be doing my first writers’ event, selling my books and giving a ten-minute talk.
I’ll be talking about what makes good writing and how it has to inform, enrich and entertain the reader. This was advice given to me by my first newspaper editor and I’ve tried to live it ever since.
It’s scary stuff to be attending my first writers’ event and speaking in public, but I’m looking forward to getting out there, meeting readers and hopefully getting books into their hands.
I’m currently editing my fourth book so it’ll be lovely to be away from my writing desk for an afternoon. Writing can be lonely job so I’m looking forward to being out and about.
It’s been a busy week getting my marketing materials together, including special event discount postcards (you can’t get the discount anywhere else) but it’s one of the fun elements of being an indie author to choose what you want to do.
What to expect at the event
If you live in the Beckenham area – or anywhere in Bromley, south London – then do pop along to the Coach and Horses on Burnhill Road on Sunday 28 August from 1pm for the Books at Beckenham event.
There’ll be 12 authors in a mixture of genres for you to meet and get books signed. If you’ve got children, there’ll also be some stories for them.
The event is in the pub garden so please pray for a warm and dry day. An umbrella could be an important part of my kit if the weather doesn’t play ball.
I’ll have a special pen ready for dedications and I’ll do my hair in case anyone wants a selfie!
